Trojan Batteries

If you’re using Trojan flooded batteries, yes — you’ll need to check and add distilled water regularly.

• When to add water:
  Always add water after fully charging the battery.
  If the battery is discharged and plates are exposed, add just enough water to cover the plates, charge it, then top up to the correct level.
• How much water to add:
  For standard batteries: fill up to 1/8 inch below the bottom of the vent well.
  For Plus Series batteries: fill to the maximum water level indicator.
• What water to use:
  Use distilled or deionized water only — no tap water or acid.
• How often to check:
  Start by checking once a month. You’ll figure out the routine based on usage and climate.
• Other tips:
  • Don’t overfill — it can lead to overflow and mess.
  • Never let the plates sit exposed to air.
  • Always secure vent caps after watering.
  • Avoid skin contact — the electrolyte is acidic.

Note: If you’re using AGM or Gel batteries, you don’t need to water them.
